In 2006 the Hill End component of the series ‘In Face of Isolation’ toured to Bathurst Regional Gallery and Hill End Art gallery ,NSW. The artist was flown up for the opening of the latter and invited for a second two week residency, this time in the Donald Friend cottage..

The famous Friend tiled oven had to be painted, along with the buck kangaroo that had taken up winter residence in the wood shed sunning himself in the garden.

Manning then turned her attention to the many fence lines that are a distinctive feature of the town.
